New Delhi, Sep 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in all the NDA-ruled states, saying the move would prove to be a milestone in advancing women's and children's rights by eliminating gender inequality and discrimination in the country.
The VHP also appealed to state governments not ruled by the BJP to take the initiative and implement the UCC in their respective states.
VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal, in a post on X, welcomed the announcement and highlighted the progress already made by several states towards implementing the UCC.
"It has been implemented in five states and three states are in the process, but in the meantime, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in BJP-ruled states across India by 2029 is welcome," Bansal wrote.
"This decision will prove to be a milestone in the development of women and child rights by eliminating the remaining gender inequality and discrimination in India," he further stated.
Bansal also praised the Modi government for pursuing the UCC and said its implementation would help sections of society that, according to the VHP, have remained deprived of equal rights over the past several decades.
"Through the Uniform Civil Code, the deprived sections of the country, comprising a large part of the population, will be able to access the rights they have not been able to enjoy in the last 75 years, and women and children will be liberated from the clutches of fundamentalists and separatists," he said.
In his post, the VHP spokesperson further urged governments in the remaining non-BJP-ruled states to come forward and take steps towards implementing the UCC, stressing that the issue should not remain limited to states governed by the BJP-led alliance.
Earlier on Sunday, the Home Minister had announced that the UCC would be implemented in all 21 states governed by the BJP-NDA before 2029.
Shah said the implementation would be undertaken through necessary measures and efforts in a phased manner.
The Home Minister noted that the UCC has already been implemented in several states, while work is underway in others. He said the next step would be to ensure that the remaining states also adopt the common civil code.
